Purposeful change through design

The Doorstep Agency is a design practice which provides urban design services to help both the private and public sector realise the potential in the places where people live or work. The ultimate aim is to create places which are functional, resilient, healthy, responsive and inspiring, in a way which finds practical solutions to built environment challenges, alongside a respectful response to the natural environment.

The agency works using established design processes within urban design and architecture expertise to help solve challenges and reach aspirations. This includes:

   - Deep and continuous engagement to understand needs and aspirations;

   - Focused research to understand the challenges and possibilities;

   - Co-design processes to create a vision and principles;

   - Testing the ideas and assumptions;

   - Development of design briefs, strategic frameworks, strategies

   - Design services in the form of precinct, master plans, block or lot plans;

   - Development of implementation strategies and plans to ensure practical delivery;

   - Continued advocacy to support the overall outcome.

This design practice consciously seeks meaningful connection with Aboriginal people in the work that is undertaken across NSW, recognising that Aboriginal people are the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waters across NSW. Alongside an enduring responsibility for maintaining the health and wellbeing of these lands and waters, Aboriginal people have deep knowledge and experience of Country, and its role in ensuring connection to place and identity. There is a clear acknowledgement that when people feel strongly connected to place and are supported by their community, they are more likely to prosper. This is a key focus as to the way in which the Doorstep Agency approaches the design of the built and natural environment.
